ID Help! A blue Bird from Scandinavia

Hi Max

I can see what Ivo is talking about the two bottles are very similar - however see that the round stopper on the blue one is textured and how it more loosely fits into the top. The green bottles stopper is smooth and the cork sits more proudly. I also see what Ivo means about the shoulders and overall shape.

They are both lovely items and I think Scandinavian - in the thread you post members attribute the green bottle as Italian, 'chopin-liszt' very rightly says there is something very Dartington about it, knowing Dartington designed out of the Scandinavian's pockets, I don't think it is Italian, the themes are just such a give away IMHO.

It would be good go get Raoul's opinion - he made an excellent Skruf attribution for Ivo not long ago on a decanter which was green

LOL putting them side by side makes me want to go out and buy two, where can I get them again  :D

cjf - Sorry we can't post recent photographs from books for copyright reasons - in fact even if the book is 50 years old there can be complications - Nigel's book is easy to buy and I think on his website - I have to say it remains a bedrock for me.

OK. Under Swedish copyright law, this would generally be permitted for non-commercial use, but I know these rules are not the same everywhere... I'll simply have to get the book. ;)

Could someone who has the book give a brief description of the bottle?

The odd picture as long as it is fully credited with title, edition, author, publisher and ISBN may be posted. Preferably via the temporary store of tinypic.com - several pictures would not be appropriate.

No, this is not KB, Gullaskruf. Kjell Blomberg also did a 4th bottle with a mermaid motif.

This the photo from Nigel Benson's book entitled:  Glass of the '50s & '60s', A Collectors Guide.  Published by Miller's.  ISBN 1 84000 538 6

Described as: Decanter by Kjell Blomberg, Gullaskruf Glassworks, c 1954. Ht 24cm/9.5cm.

IMHO I still feel these two decanters are Italian, and I don't think they're Dartington.

I hope it's ok to use this photo, I'm happy to delete at any time.

Thank you Raoul, a feast for the eyes, as always!

Have you seen the mermaid bottle in real life?
