" Pinched " Paperweight ?? ID = Leerdam, Floris Meydam
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:46:03 AM »
 :hi:

I have no idea what to call this shape as not a dome, or egg shaped, or dump.....the best I can call it is *pinched*.  So correct me if that is the wrong term.  Clear glass with swirls of blue and black colors.

~ Concave bottom and polished bottom
~ Bottom does show Good Wear
~ pinched / oblong Shape
~ 5 inches long x 1.75 inch wide x 2.5 inches tall
~ Weighs about 1.72 pounds

There is an impact mark on it - but I do not care as this was in a box of Glass I got for about $20 and there is like 12 pieces of glass in it, some in VERY fine shape.   So no lost cause IMHO.  Just curious to find out what it is.  Still good to look at, and to use for holding papers.  It is quite nice.  The more I look at it -- the more I like it.

Any ideas on the makers / age / or any info at all?  I have no clue and not finding much on the internet using the term * Pinched PW *.

TIA  :ghug:

Might take a while for anyone to identify this. Could be a one-off from any one of lots of modern studios over the past 20-30 years or so.

It is hard to see from the photos what the shape actually is. Is it folded in some way or is squeezed in at the sides of a main body? Or something else?

Thanks KevinH for your reply.

It is kinda like the sides have been squeezed in (not folded).  I think Pic 2 shows it best.   The sides where it was squeezed-in....kinda looks like other glass I have seen called pinched.  Only way I can descripte it. Base does have good wear.

Thanks, for looking  :ghug:

Update - 3 years later:

Might these PW in ~ CLICK LINK HERE ~ ( SCROLL DOWN ) be related?  Opinions please.  Design shape looks the same, only the bottom concave is a bit different.  The link one has a bit of a rim on the bottom -- plus it is signed LEERDAM.

Mine looks very very much like it....so might it be a match?

Thanks for your thoughts !

Apart from the foot rim it's pretty much a twin to your example. It's described as 'Murano style' but in truth it could have been produced by any glass studio. Langham weights have very similar swirl designs.

Based on all the above now -- I think we can confirm the ID on this PW.  The last link seems to have the same base...plus label.  Says it was from 1953 -- Wow.

Thanks so much gang for extra help!!   ID confirmed now!!!

Looks like we've 'cracked' it!, measurements agree as well. Nice to find something that has a price against it as per the link, it give an idea of the value, antiquerose123, perhaps you ought to print out the link page to the Leerdam weight and keep it with your example for atribution. Nice find I would say.
