Chance - Greco pattern - for reference
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:07:35 PM »
Hi all, I have had this set for some time and several years ago discussed it with David who informed that the labels on the 3 small plates were considered rare and probably dated the set between 1951 - 1953. Just thought I would add it to the board for reference.

This sandwich set consists of a long serving tray and 6 small square plates.
This set is rarely seen with these earlier rare 'Fiesta' labels (on 3 of the small plates) and probably dates them between 1951-53.
The Greco pattern had a fairly short life (3-4 years at most)

With grateful thanks to David P. Encill author of Chance Expressions at www.chanceglass.net for the above information.
Hil :)

    Great Piece !!!

Was wondering IF that label should be in the Glass Gallery in the label section?  Just wondering...as not sure if it is there.

Very nice set - I think I have one with the original box (that's now in a much larger box, along with the rest of my collection...)
 :spls: :-\ :-X :help:

No box here as you say in your book - they were sold without boxes originally :)
Eagerly awaiting 'Chance Additions' :)

Hil, I'M eagerly waiting Chance Additions!  ;D

So much to do with Patricia's book, but it has now been consigned to the printers this week. However, all these delays in getting Additions to press has meant a LOT more extra information on Chance glass has surfaced, including complete catalogues from the Orlak and Aqualux ranges!

Will post more information when it's available.

The Greco pattern is very attractive - I wonder why it had such a short run?

Not that short - there were examples turning up in the early 1960s as evidenced by some advertising trays linked to a date. However, it's popularity was probably limited, and I don't think it was in regular production once Swirl (1955) really took off.
