Karl Wiedmann ashtray for Gralglas?
« on: March 17, 2012, 09:56:02 AM »
I've got an ashtray which is very similar (if not the same) in style to my Wiedmann ball candleholders.  Neither the candleholders nor the ashtray are in the Gralglas Deutsches Design 1930-1981 book.

I'm rather confident that my ashtray is Gralglas, but would appreciate confirmation (and a few kind words). The ashtray is 15cm wide, 6cm high and weighs 1417g.  There is a polished concave pontil mark on the base.

... it's very attractive, even though it is an ashtray.

Thank you for looking.

It looks exactly right to me, Anik  :-*
I don't know about Gralglas, but it's Karl Wiedmann as far as my lusting guts are concerned!

Sue, I like what your lusting guts have to say. ;D    When I bought the ashtray a few weeks ago and showed Dirk a photo, he also thought it had a Wiedmann look to it.  But he also added that the technique is not exclusive to Wiedmann or Gralglas, hence my desire to find proof.

It does look fabulous displayed by my four ball candleholders though.

I feel others may use this technique - but not to the same gut-wrenching effect as Karl Wiedmann can.

It´s a great addition to your collection, Anik, and I love it!
The more I look at your pictures the less I doubt it must be Wiedmann indeed.
Have you managed to take a look at the Gral Cd?

Hi Dirk, I have looked at the CD, but had no luck finding the ashtray. I wonder why the Gralglas book and CD give so little space to Karl Wiedmann?  :-\

Anik, another beautiful piece.
Seeing the ashtray next to your candle holders I wouldn't have the slightest problem attributing it to Wiedmann...

Michael

edit:
just saw this on ebay, Anik -- wouldn't a Beranek-like bird from Gralglas fit into your collection? ;D

Perhaps the author wants it all for him/er self?
Doesn't want anybody else to know about it?

This happens, you know!
