Wade Tortoise makes £3700 hammer.........
« on: March 24, 2012, 11:37:36 AM »
Hi,
It may have been an internet bid that won this lot ? In which case after commissions it would be near £4500.
I bet the seller has a big smile on their face  :) http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/arthur-johnson-and-sons/catalogue-id-2859370/lot-13764916
 Regards,
               Patrick. ;)

I believe it was a bid in the room that won the lot.  But still close to £4,500 with commission (I think it comes to £4,440).

Must check my tortoises....

£4,500 for a likely Bacchus weight with some other odds and ends. I suppose that's ok.

The paperweight in this lot was a very good Bacchus weight, the best one I have seen for sale this side of the pond for a while.

It was a very nice Bacchus, but it had rather a lot of 'cording' and an unusually high number of small bubbles in the clear glass - so not the best: but it would have looked good in my collection! ;D

It would have looked even better in my collection, since I have no Bacchus weights at all ... just mostly Scottish items made by members of a Spanish family! ;D

I don't agree with the comment about this weight having rather a lot of cording the cording was visable when the weight was held at an angle to the light but no more so than most weights. As for the air bubbles they did not distract. So yes one of the best Bacchus weights I have seen for sale in a while.
