Whitefriars Streaky vase/pot - Any info appreciated
« on: March 25, 2012, 01:56:36 PM »

Just a little clarification required on this delightful piece of Whitefriars.

Not completely sure about the colour although looks close to Aqua with dark purple streaks of colour running through the glass.

Ground polished pontil mark to the base.

Measures approx 3 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. Very heavy 1050 grams.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just a few a additional pics, hopefully a little clearer.

Can't seem to find the shape in the Whitefriars catalogues. In terms of colour the main body appears aqua and has deep purple streaks running through. The exact colour of the purple streaks are a little hard to capture on camera.

Not sure its intentional or not, there is also an extremely small slope across the top of the rim.

Came from a collection with other Whitefriars pieces. Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm wondering Caithness.....
Some of the later limited edition studio pieces were very much these colours - and the bulbous flanged rim on this looks nothing remotely wfsey...

Double definitely not Mdina. ;D

Are those 'pulled bits' like you get on Whitefriars knobbly vases and bowls?

They are very reminiscent of the Whitefriars knobbly vases and bowls, the surface also looks a little like small folds or indents, which reminds me a little of some of the Whitefriars dimple vases.

The colours and streaks do certainly remind me of other Whitefriars streaky/knobbly vases I have owned in the past. Although, as Sue pointed out the rim is certainly not indicative of Whitefriars generally speaking.

Certainly, the texture and streaky pattern do draw resemblances to some of the Cirrus knobbly vases:

A link to this thread has now been added on the Whitefriars website.

Many thanks.

Purple streaks in teal glass and knobbly bits on the surface are both decidedly features of late (and rather spectacular) Caithness Studio..... although I haven't seen this shape, nor do Caithness tend to have polished pontil marks.......... :-\
