Ysart ?? butterfly

This multi insect paperweight has a concave polished base and appears to have a 'dropped Y' signature cane. So maybe not by Paul Ysart....

Hi Alan,

Interestingly the seller of this triple insects weight identified correctly an Ysart fake (a triple flower weight) in another of his listings...

Hi All

I had a single insect similar to the bottom insect. It looks more like a moth than a Dragonfly so I sent a Photo to Paul Ysart asking if it was his.

He said that he had not made this weight so in my opinion this is a forgery.

I am sure Kev can confirm this.

A few days ago, I notified the seller of the status of both weights with links to my own and the Ysart Glass pages on fake py weights. The seller updated the listings almost immediately.

The Triple Flower had its title amended to "Paul Ysart style" and the description was changed, stating, "Although this carries a PY n one of the canes, it may be a copy ... ". The seller added a similar comment to the description of the Triple Insect but probably could not change the title at that time without deleting and relisting.

Yes I agree, just seen the 2 weights on the auction and they are both fakes. The PY canes are not correct because of the colours and the antenae are not PY designed and made.
Had an excellent example 3 or 4 years ago which I unfortunately sold. Still have a photo of it but it is 325 kb so cant post it on here.
        Regards Roger,

Roger, if you are unable to reduce the Kb size of the image, just send it to me via my email icon and I will sort it out and add it, which would be useful for future information in the thread.

Roger's photo (slightly cropped and reduced to 600 pixel width) added here.

Although Roger's weight is not a Triple Insect example, like one of the current eBay ones, the form of the butterfly is very typical of most of those known. His weight is also, I believe, the exact one illustrated in the book Ysart Glass as Plate 206 and shown in the Ysart Glass web pages as PY fake009.

This Paul Ysart "style" is catching on.   See ebay listing 170813839648.   This one appears to

 be genuine?

Looks like a genuine Harland era 'Paul Ysart studio' piece to me (though quite who actually made each of the Harland pieces is a whole different can of worms.....I have heard it said more than once that Paul made the 'PY' signed weights, and that his apprentices made the 'H' signed weights).
