Italian Bowl...you'll like this one.
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:01:08 PM »
What is distinctive in this green bowl is the black rim, it takes some skill to create such a consistently good glass application and ultimate rim ( though black in appearance if you turn the bowl in bright light the black rim is actually purple ). It has a crizzeling appearance. I have seen a similar effect in WMF. It could be some gaseous application?

It's earlyish, the wear to the ridges/high spots on the base are correct under an eye glass. I'd place this in the 30's maybe as late as early 50's. It feels Italian and whoever made it was skillful.

So Dear Glass Message Colleagues who is it by?

 :)

Venini Napolean Martinuzzi is the closest I've found playing around with google.

Looking at the bowl again the "stretch mark " effect around the rim on the underside of the lip and wrapping around the black rim  has a metallic quality to it and reflects when lit from above. Very nice.

Come on you sleuths. ;)

The moulded design looks quite shallow compared to early Venini / Cappellin / CVM pieces of this type.

Here's a huge (50cm) variation on a theme with quite pronounced moulding, probably from the 1930s...

Nic/PinkSpoons, thank you, nice trailing there. This piece has a Soffiata feel to the moulding, 8cm ( 3") high, 33cm ( 12" ).

Here's some more pictures...

And another:

There is a slight irridescence to the upper surface of the bowl.

Any thoughts?

Kind Regards

Andrew
