Sommerso vase, purple/red, maker?
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:50:21 PM »
Nice Sommerso vase in "classic" colourway -- bluish purple / pinkish red / cased in colourless glass.

Height 20 cm, flat polished base, rim cut and polished with bevelled edge (outside and inside).

Pieces in this colourway seem to be either by Archimede Seguso (like this one on Wayne's site, and one in Pina's book), or attributed to Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte (like the pieces here, here and here).
No idea if there are other makers as well who used this colourway.

Does the shape give any clues?

Thanks for any help,
Michael

Hi rocco. It looks like a really well made piece. The shape does remind me of some Poli pieces I own and the colourway looks good. Not chinese done. The rim looks well finished. I would just leave it as Seguso at the moment. Whether it is A.S or SVdA. If I stumble upon something I will post here. Very good find in my opinion.

Thanks a lot, Kane!

It has several flaws, but still displays beautifully :)
I am very happy with the Seguso attribution -- let's see if it can be narrowed down further one day...

I have a similar piece.

Have had this for a very long time and have always wonder where it came from.

Rob, very nice!
I wouldn't call it similar -- it seems to be identical. Is it the same height as mine?

Maybe the colours in yours can help in narrowing down the maker -- that turquoise is not the most common colour in Murano glass.
I have found several pieces (most designed by Mario Pinzoni for Seguso V. d'A.) with a similar casing:

Yes it is the same height as yours Michael.

Those examples you posted are great.
For years I have always doubted this piece was even Murano because of the turquoise.

Now there is a definite possibility.

It looks good buster for Murano...I must admit I haven't seen your colour combination very often. Only a handful of times over the years. It could be a relative of rocco's piece!

Very, very well made.
Time ago I saw piece with the same color combination made by Seguso, but with a different shape.

Sincerely
