Last one. This is the one with the WI and surrounding roses on the pontil. This weight measures 3"1/4 x 3"

i know the weight was made by Liskeard glass as they sometimes used different marks for organizations, not sure what WI means though
cheers Ray

I was thinking 'Womans Institute' but the roses are throwing me as I thoiught that the WI was acorns and Oak.

It is indeed for the Women's Institute.  I have two of these (well, my wife does...), one with a Liskeard label.  I believe they were only made for the local County organisation (ie Devon), who met in a room above the Liskeard Glass studio.

The badge shows the rose so this could probably be right and by the size of the weight and the internal design it does look very Liskeardish but I know that the design does not pin a weight down to a particular studio or maker nesessarily.

I don't think there is any doubt whatsoever that these are Liskeard pieces.

I ran a short article in the PCC Newsletter (Issue 99) with the images of the weights below (one of which bears a Liskeard label), asking if anyone knew why they were made. I was contacted (I think by Yelverton, but cannot remember) to say they had been made for the local WI federation - I am sure they said Devon, but Cornwall might make more sense.

The picture of the one on the right, and the pontil closeup, is exactly the same as the one I picked up yesterday so that would confirm its identity. I'm very close to Yelverton but have never visited the paerweight shop, funny how you never seem to visit the places closest to you, will have to remedy that one day, I am told by a friend though that they are rather expensive there as they target the wealthy tourists.
