John Simmonds: Paperweights From Great Britain 1930-2000
Schiffer Book for Collectors 2000
Page 25
Fig.35

J. S. describes an rare colored sulphide of two ducks.
Has anybody on the board more information's about  Paul or Salvadores sulphides from this time?
Or more information of that kind of their paperweights (diameter, high, kind of glass, how is the base like)?
I will send pictures later.

In my opinion, the pics look like more early Chinese then the Ysarts, or not?

Hi Lothar.

I think it is always important to question what you read in books, because occasionally they are wrong.  My feeling is that this may be one of those occasions, and that the ducks paperweight shown in John Simmonds book is actually Chinese.  To me the ducks look very like the creatures that appear in some of the Chinese 'aquarium' weights, and the weight in general bears little similarity to Paul's work.

The ducks weight in the book is Chinese.

John Simmonds is aware of the incorrect attribution, which was unfortunately not noted until after publication.

Hi Lothar

I think the small Chinese sulphide weights may be older than that - probably 1930s to 1940s.
