Uranium Vanity Jars?
« on: April 06, 2012, 06:34:19 PM »
I got these today & two questions...#1 are these some type of vanity bottles? & #2 which is probably hard to answer...because of the enamal sunject matter of decoration are they more likely to be of European origin rather than U.S. origin?  They are 5 1/2" height, 3 1/2" width X 2 1/2" width with a snap pontil not polished. Thanks, Ken

The decoration on them looks similar to the decoration on Czech/Bohemian pieces.
Pete. :-)

Aren't they sweet? Ken, you always find trinket things that baffle me, but I'll have a trawl through my reference stuff and see if anything looks similar. From their size I'd suspect cologne bottles or similar...

Thanks Anne I appreciate that. They were  $45 for the pair, older mold blown, had some wear, but still intact & they even took the time to number the tops & the bottoms to match. While I've always been a bit skeptical about some of higher percentile quotes for Uranium batches I do have to say that you can be six feet away from my light setup & they glow so perhaps it may be a higher batch % than I usually encounter. Guess I have  a weakness for some of the older vanity items since I think during the time period they were made probably not everyone would spend hard earned money for these items to use & appreciate since they are essentially utility pieces, not the more glamorous & elaborate vases, bowls, candlesticks, etc.  Ken
