Hi Ray. I agree it is probably a fake, and I think I have seen that dropped Y signature cane before in fakes.

Perhaps one of the board members with appropriate specialist knowledge could offer a view?

It sold at Taylors or some other Scottish Auction House very recently.

Whilst based on a genuine Ysart design, it's clearly a fake and I've sent two messages to the seller advising him to change the description - to no avail.

I think there was a fake flower weight in the same sale.

The auction house did not attribute either weights to Paul Ysart - or at the very least stated "in the style of...."

Standard "type 2" cane - small letters set level, but still yellow / orange "p" and pink "y".

See my info and that in Frank's Ysart Glass pages type 1  type 2.

In my info, at the top of the main page the four canes show three "dropped y" versions and one with level letters. As with any cane, distortions during the making will make them look slightly different, but usually all will either show the "y" as dropped or level.

Edited to remove an incorrect statement on my part.
I had suggested that all the "copies" of PY Parrot weights were not "3D", which is not true. ::)

It is, indeed, a pity that the seller has set the title to say "Paul Ysart style" but the description states "Paul Ysart".

Here are pictures of the type 1 cane which appeared in 1988 with the dropped Y and the type two cane of 1992 with spaced letters. The cane in the parrot weight looks quite like the type 2 to me

Is this the sick parrot that died in the monty python sketch?    Dont know why the maker would even consider to be able to put a PY in this weight.  Looks bad enough to be a cheap chinese.
I am sure we have all seen PY fakes that are 10 times better.  The parrot is DEAD.
      Regards Roger.

The seller has added this to the listing:-

"On 23-Apr-12 at 23:08:09 BST, seller added the following information:

This paperweight may original or a copy, I'll leave it up to you to decide"
