Blue pearline bowl ? Davidson 643 or not - ID = Greener
« on: April 28, 2012, 09:06:40 PM »
I picked this up a while ago, thinking it was a Davidson 643 in blue pearline, but all of the 643 pattern pieces I have seen have a different star pattern on the base, like this one:
http://www.cloudglass.com/VictorianDishes.htm (top image) rather than the long-rayed star on mine.

Can anyone confirm or deny it as the 643, or suggest a possible maker if it's not Davidson, please?

Incidentally, Christine had a look at it when she was here a few weeks ago and she, like me, initially though Davidson 643, but we are puzzled about the base pattern.

Hi Anne,

I am quite sure that what you have here is in fact a Greener's dish that was made to rival the Davidson 'Brideshead' design.

The Greener's range has full length rays on the bottom as opposed to Davidsons star. I believe it's called 'Bridesmaid'?

Greener's was based in Sunderland and this range was introduced in I believe 1890-1900. I've had a piece of this in the past and it is very hard to tell the comparisons but the giveaway as far as I am concerned is the full length 'rays' on the base.

A nearly identical looking one for sale here: http://www.premierantiques.co.uk/greener-blue-opalescent-glass-bridesmaid-oval-dish-c1890-171-p.asp

Where I got the 'bridesmaid' name from.

David's that's excellent, thank you so much. :) Christine suspected it might be Greener, but I couldn't find a match for it anywhere. This is my 3rd piece of pearline, the other 2 are Davidson yellow pearline... looks to be the start of another collection!   ;D
