Davidson tall 283 candlestick...odd colour
« on: May 03, 2012, 07:40:06 PM »
Hello again  :)

Just looking for some confirmation if anyone can help please

am assuming this is a standard tall 283 candlestick but have not come across this colour before. Is it Emerald? produced in 1930's? I thought that Emerald was much lighter in Davidson glass.

I'm not lucky enough to have 'the' book and can't find anything on Chris & Vals site

any ideas?

ps sorry for grainy photos but the colour appears quite true to life (on my screen anyway)

Cheers, Mel

I recently sold a Chevron vase by Davidson in this exact colour so I would say yes  :)it is Emerald. Unfortunately I deleted the picture I had after I sold it. :)

Hi Simba, thanks for your reply.

Do you have anything to reference your chevron vase to Emerald by any chance?

I'm stuck, because according to Chris & Vals site Emerald is a much lighter green as I seemed to have remembered from way back

Ref Here: http://www.cloudglass.com/davidsonpostwar.htm, scroll down to the wall pocket which is emerald.

I have found out the tall 283 candlesticks are pre war but still stuck on this colour, which to my eye is more teal than anything else

Hope its ok to add the link

cheers, Mel

Can find written references for an RAF green in the 1940s (but just lenses) and an Antique Green in the 1960s but nothing with a picture for comparison.

So am truly stuck :-(

any help gratefully received

Davidson emerald is definitely just a standard light green but the 269 (blackberry) pattern appears to have been made in a similar green at some time. The 283 range was made for nearly 50 years, according to the Stewart's book. I suggest antique green and 1960s.
