The blue vase in the pictures is something of a puzzle. It stands 20.5cm high by 17.5cm diameter and weighs just over 2kg. The pattern of triangles appears to be etched by sandblasting.
The blank is clearly of high tech manufacture. I'd guess it was centrifugally moulded, on the evidence: (1) the precision of its shape, (2) the lack of mould seams, (3) the unusual surface finish of the material which is slightly dimpled, and (4) the appearance of the base including its faint circular pattern. The polished area around the opening also indicates high manufacturing standards. The item is heavy for its dimensions, suggesting a high lead content and it has a high-pitched ring when tapped.
I would dismiss it as a mere decorator item if it weren't for the manufacturing quality and the restraint of the decoration. Does anyone have any clues as to its origins?
