Photocatalytic glass fibres
« on: May 13, 2012, 10:18:24 AM »
Hi
Does anyone have information on where I can buy titanium dioxide coated glass fibres.
Ideally I should coat them myself but the consistency of the coating is important hence I need a commercial product.

Try this: go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_fiber and check out the links at the end of the page.  Most pages should have further links to the type of material you are looking for. Or start your search from http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/titanium-fiber.html and filter your preferences. Good luck!

Hi uloolu, and welcome to the board.

What an interesting question for a first one!

Ivo has given you lots of info to look through and you may well find exactly what you are looking for there. If not, then my husband, John, has a lot of information about this type of glass fibre,  but needs more info to be able to help you.

You're very welcome to write to him using the little envelope to the left of the page, under my name,  and give a little more info on type of photocatalytic fibre,  rutile or not, length and thickness of fibres ( Or do you require it as matting fibres?) and if they would be required to melt at a particular temperature.
It would also help to know your location if he is going to be able to give suppliers within reasonable distance.
Hope we can help!
Rosie.

@Ivo
Thanks a lot Ivo,
I have had a look at the second link and this is close to what I am looking for
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/543542258/Nano_Microporous_filter_for_Air_Purifier.html
However the fibre is made of metal, I can't find one made of glass fibre.

@rosieposie
Thanks for the reply
I am a PhD researching in photocatalysis.
I do not want the fibres to melt at all, I want the fibres to be glass fibres so UV light can pass through unlike the metal fibres in the link above which light cannot pass through.

Thanks guys

Hi Uloolu,
John may well still be able to help and the invitation from him to expand on your needs will possibly be helpful to you.
 I am the glass collector,  he is the electro mecahnical engineer with more books on the subject than I care to swear about in case he swears about my glass collection!!

Offer still open to you.
Rosie.
