Hi Marc,
I am fairly sure that it is an old/antique French paperweight. But I cannot work out from which factory (out of my comfort zone).
Alan will tell you more, I am sure.

i reckon St Mande - follows their pattern, particularly with the outer ring almost hidden at the edge. But then French is not my thing

I think it is St Mandé - the rounded shape is right, and the canes and design are consistent with StM.
