Small paperweight, Mdina?
« on: May 04, 2012, 01:44:23 PM »
My first paperweight 8)
I usually don't "do" paperweights, but I did like the complex swirly interior of this one.

7 cm high, colours look very Mdina'ish, flat polished base, unsigned.

Is my attribution correct? If so -- any idea when this one may have been made?

Thanks,
Michael

I'll try some additional info and pics.

Nr 1 showing the interior a little better, Nr 2 base shot showing the big Silver chloride, highly iridescent bubbles...

And a more detailed description: the interior is basically a blob of turqoise glass, rolled to a sort of snail shell shape, with loads of silver chloride in the centre, crizzle layer around the whole thing and then a clear casing. Overall shape is a little wonky, not a perfect globe.
At the top there is also some iridescence to the surface...

Quite special, isn't it ;)

A lovely looking weight, quite special to my eye.

It has all sorts of aspects that shout Mdina, so I would think you are correct there. As to age that is more difficult but if I had seen it for sale I would have bought it and it would sit very comfortably in my collection. ;D

John and I agree completely then, Michael!
It's rather special, enough for it to overcome any paperweight-ish-ness and be a very desirable lump of glass.

And thanks Sue for confirming :)
If all of us three not-so-into-paperweights people like it, it has to be quite special...
