New paperweight-might not be Whitefriars but who knows!!
« on: May 19, 2012, 01:40:55 AM »
Have had a bit of a break from acquiring glass lately but took a punt on this one. Lovely clear glass with 5 slightly dished circular facets to the body and one larger on to the top, with a double ring of suspended blue and white canes. The design on the base a rather fancy old fashioned -and- has been acid etched or sandblasted. Diameter is 7.5cm,height is 6.5cm.
Is the design on the base a logo of some sort-anyone recognize it?? Now that I have the weight I am veering away from Whitefriars to a glass maker more modern-the circular facets  are small-too small for the Whitefriars paperweights I have seem in the Jackson book and also the canes  have a lot of space around them.
Love the design but would like to know more- any one out there that can help point me in the right direction???
From a lovely sunny and brisk Napier

It's a Caithness "Corporate Weight" (#14 in the 1993 catalogue): there was (is?) a selection of designs people or organisations could choose from to have a logo or something else engraved. The designs are older than 1993 (I have images of at least 2 such weights dated "1992"). I have seen your weight on ebay before - but nobody knew the logo.

It would be great to get permission to use your images for ScotlandsGlass --- and even better, if you could take images on a white uniform background :-*.

Many thanks Wuff for your informative reply. Will try my best with your request, would it be preferable to post on the forum or send direct to you via email?

Best would be a combination: post on the forum (keeping the size limit) plus sending me the high-res originals by direct mail.
Thanks and best regards - Wolf
