Ashtray designed by Marc Newson - but who made it?
« on: September 03, 2006, 07:32:11 PM »
I think I got a bit of a bargain at this morning's carboot - an ashtray designed and signed by Australian contemporary Product and Furniture Designer, Marc Newson. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/marcnewson004.jpg

The name didn't immediately ring a bell until I googled his name and realised that he was the designer of amongst many other things, amazingly futuristic chairs which I'd seen on a t.v. programme.

It appears that he designed drinking glasses for Iittala Glassworks, Finland, but I can't find any record of who actually made this ashtray.  Does anyone know please?

I found this one in black c.1990, but there are no details of maker.  This is identical in size to mine, which is a kind of citrine colour(?)

Found this post researching. I bought one of these ashtrays in turquoise this morning for £1. Now I am pleased!
