Murano or not ?? ID = Paul Ysart, likely 1930s
« on: June 14, 2012, 07:55:50 PM »
Hi, not sure if this is Murano or not, its 3 inch dia and 2 inches tall has a flat polished base with wear scratches. millifiori canes in a dome shape but they seem to have no depth in them if i have explained it right. Maker and age would again be great.

Many thanks

Malc

Age of these is hard to confirm as being either pre- or post-war, but it is certainly one those two periods.

Although many 1930s PY weights have an unfinished base (i.e. they have a visible pontil scar of some type) some were polished smooth on the base, especially, but not always, those with a clear ground.

However, what I have personally called "barrel canes" (those lying on their side) seem to appear most frequently in pre-war weights.

If the colour of the clear glass appears "tinted" or "grey" (but not "yellow tinted"), then together the other points, I would say it is very likely 1930s period.
