GTS mystery set no. 3 - ID = Tynesyde Glass by Sowerby

<< < (3/3)

Jayne:
Paul, this one is a mystery to me also, lovely tray, and sorry for the late reply.

Anne:
I saw a part set in this design in clear peachy pinky colour today and with it was one of these French cog wheel based small decanters which was a spot-on match for colour: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,41939.0.html - Ivo says the decanters are "100% Arques" - so could this point us in the right direction for this set??? Did Arques make trinket sets?

Jayne:
The set has now been found with a Tynesyde label:

I can also confirm I have an amber set with another Tynesyde Label. No photos as yet but hopefully soon.

Jayne:
It seems the maker is still Sowerby

For information;

http://www.glassencyclopedia.com/Sowerbyglass.html

Snippet "In the 1930's the company had new designs (The Tynesyde Glassware series), new mold makers (from Bohemia) and new technology which made good quality glass cheaper"

Jayne:
Identified as Sowerby pattern number 2612

Shown in the 1938 "Tynesyde Glassware - Sowerby's Ellison Glassworks Ltd" catalogue as "2612- Trinket Set 7 pieces. A bright and sparking set, made in Flint (aka Clear), Amber, Blue and Green"

Also in the 1940 Catalogue as "2612 7 pieces. Flint, Amber, Blue, Green and Rosalin (aka Pink). Also Satin finish"

Therefore 10 choices by 1940.
