French Iridescent Frilled Vase Old New?
« on: July 27, 2012, 04:45:01 PM »
Can anyone help with an id or thoughts on this vase please?
Bought in France, 11cm high, 15cm wide, blown, frilled, ground-out pontil, as you can see if I've managed to load the images properly.
Strong texture.
Not Ikea and not Loetz, but a nice vase. Anyone have ideas?
Thanks in advance.

HI and welcome to the board.  It looks a bit like the blue Loetz Mimosa to me, but I take it from your comments that you have discounted Loetz completely?
Gorgeous piece!   I would have bought it :)

Thanks - I'm glad someone else shares my tastes!! (I was kind of expecting some acerbic comments when I saw the "I'm new - please be kind to me" tag by my name!)

Yes, it does a bit. Though I have some Kralik, I've always thought Loetz was outside my fairly modest budget, which is the sole reason I discounted it.

I forgot to mention, there was a fair old bloom, which I have taken ages to (mostly) remove.

ps. Thanks again. From your lead, I've just been looking at Alfredo Villanueva-Collado's site "Loetz and Glass" and have solved another personal mystery.  There's a picture of something very similar to my little crackle vase there - but also a cobalt ciselé ringer for a vase I've had and cherished for years.

I seem to have gone from no-Loetz to two   :)

We don't do acerbic here -  we just love looking at new glass  ;D
The tag is to ensure new posters are welcomed.
Have you checked out Loetz Mimosa just in case? - our posts crossed - nice you have two!

If you put a check in google images some should come up as there are a group of them in the 4 different colours, posted on Loetz.com I think.
Could you do another shot side on with the crackle lit a little better to see the colours and iridescence please?
That might help as the patterning of the crackle will show up more - more ideas maybe forthcoming.
Thanks
m

Welcome most appreciated.

Here's another pic which should show it up better.  I googled as you suggested and found a good match for colour and finish. If this does turn out to be the right ID, it must be record timing.

Yes, it will be great if I have two. I spent a lot (I thought!) on the first one; it just blew me away!
