Junior pressed glass trinket set
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:31:23 AM »
A toy trinket set in clear pressed glass. To give some idea of scale, the tray measures 28x15cm.

Any idea as to age or manfacturer, please?

I've came across toy (usually 1/12th scale) blown glass tableware pieces, mostly Victorian or Edwardian, probably made to dress doll's houses, and there are, of course , lots of toy china teasets, but this is the first time I've seen a toy glass trinket set.

Does anyone else have examples of toy trinket sets in pressed or blown glass?

Yes, Anne.

The tray is 28x15cm. The pots have a rim 'diameter' (across the flats) of 6.5cm and are 4cm high (including lids); the candlesticks are 6.5cm across the flats and 4cm high; the ringholder is 6cm across the flats and 4cm high.

Have you got your units right? 28 cm = 11 inches Not very toy. It just seems small rather than toy

Yes, Christine, the units are correct.

I initially used the term 'toy' rather than small in the same sense that half-size children's china teasets would normally be regarded as 'toy' or play sets .

The 'miniature' pieces produced to furnish dolls houses are usually much smaller (often 1: 12 or 1:24 scale) but they are usually not produced for use as toys or play items but for use by dedicated minaiturists or collectors.

I wasn't thinking doll's house but they still seem quite large for toy. You could be right though

Thanks Fred, much appreciated. I'm wondering if these were intended as junior miss type pieces rather than full adult ones? The sort of things an older girl/young teen may have been given as she starts to grow up? There are similarly small sized ones in Sowerby's range (Maid and Junior coming to mind.)

That makes more sense than toy as such

I agree.

Would you like to change the topic heading to something more appropriate, Anne?
