Hi JP, I remember this bowl, it is indeed similar to Svobodova galaxy technique but various factors suggest quality Murano not CZ. The polished pontil rod mark is unlikely for Skrdlovice, I have never seen it on a galaxy range piece. Also a GMB member a while ago, Langhaugh I think, found a very good match for this bowl in a quite good quality import-export Murano catalogue from the 60's. He may remember a possible factory. Also, this bowl shape does not appear in the Skrdlovice pattern books as part of the galaxy range......... so in my opinion, quality Murano (sorry no definite factory!) is the way to go with it,

Robert is correct that I found an exact match for this ashtray in two catalogues from Jordan's Importing Co., a US company from the 50's and 60's. The daughter of the owner of Jordan's has stated that Jordan's had its own factory on Murano, but this is not certain. Most of what they sold was lower end Murano with a few better pieces.

I have a few Svobodova  'Galaxy' and related pieces, and I agree with Robert that there's nothing like this in the 'Galaxy' line.  Murano is what I'd call it.

Good luck.

David
