Nice Jobling find at the fair today
«

Hi everyone
I went to a local fair today and saw this on a stall.Didn't buy it at first but after walking around I decided to have a look at it.
My curiosity got the better of me so I purchased it as something looked familiar about it.
I went home and had a look in my books and when I looked in the Jobling catalogue there it was on page 44!
Opalique sealion!
So glad I bought it.

Hi Bernard
I have looked all over it but cannot seem to find anything on it.
I thought there may have been a reg number or etching but cannot seem to find them?

Nigel — I would have expected either Rd. No. 799361 or Regn App For engraved in a very elegant hand. Baker & Crowe gives the pattern number as 10750, the date as 23 January 1935, and notes that the plaster model was by Etienne Franckhauser.
It's the first example I've seen.

Hi Bernard
I have looked all over and felt the glass to no avail.I have seen other opalique Jobling items etched with a faint Joblings opalique ( I used to have the small fish ashtray in opalique and that had the signiture)
This is the first one I have seen too.
I was looking at page 44 of the Tyne council catalogue and it shows this was in flint or opalique. The page also had other figures including a beautiful bear bookend which I would love to own!

Hi Nigel
Nice Sealion figure, I once had the opalique fish ashtray but dropped it and the fish shattered .
I recently sold these Jobling bookends to Switzerland , I will keep my eyes out for them in amber for you

Hi Roy
That is very kind of you to let me know if you see the amber bear bookend...I think they are lovely!
I never really took much notice of the sealion when I walked past the stall at first....I went and bought a pair of of frosted Nymphen Walther candlesticks from another stall and then I went back to the stall and asked to look at it.Well it was a bargain so I snapped it up!
