Is this a vase by Jiri Zouzela for Podebrady?
« on: July 19, 2012, 03:03:55 PM »
I'm very excited by something I bought a while back and which I *think* I may now have identified! Having searched through masses of Czech glass catalogues and images, I finally found a vase the same shape and size with a different cut pattern on Jindrich's web album here: PAGE LINK

The one in the catalogue has diagonal cuts, whereas mine has cross cuts. The base of mine is flat and highly polished. The top is cut flat and polished, and has tiny bevels on the inner and outer edges.

Height matches the catalogue at 25cm, but the shoulders of mine appear to be a tad lower than the catalogue version. I've added pics showing the top and the pattern detail, plus 2 shots of the vase side on. The greyscale pic shows the criss-cross pattern more clearly than the other pic.

So, the question is, is mine also Jiri Zouzela for Podebrady? Any help, comments or info most welcome. :)

Thank you to Jindrich for making his reference material available online too.  :-*

Anne, I can understand your excitement. :)

It does look like a Zouzela piece, doesn't it?  Unfortunately, I don't know enough to confirm, but maybe one of our more Czech-glass-knowledge-inclined members will help.  It's an interesting piece.

I sure hope it is, Anik. It's been baffling me since I bought it. I hope Jindrich or Robert might take a peep sometime. :)

Anne,
I am not a 100 per cent it is a different pattern to the one you found in Modern Bohemian Glass. So I would wonder myself if you haven't already attributed it correctly. The shape is such a match, as is the end of the pattern near the base, and the rim, maybe contrast photography shadow and light used by Jindrich Brok has just made the vase appear slightly different looking to your daylight picture....

Just to modify, I do see the cross hatching effect on your vase, I would just see this as a variant on the same vase design...... pattern books could confirm this one day perhaps.......

Thanks for looking Robert, I live in hope that I'll find this exact one in a pattern book too... I can't find many images of pieces by him online, sadly. Do we know anything else about him?
