Mysterie set 73
« on: July 19, 2012, 08:28:31 PM »
A pair of clear glass candlesticks and a lidded trinket pot in a somewhat bluey-green. Lots of beaded detail.

Any suggestions for ID, please?

I've seen this in a sort of electric blue as well Fred, and can't recall if it was id'd or unknown. I'll go check my refs again for you.

The shape of the lidded dish shouts American to me, probably Jeannette?

Good luck  :)

Photo of a set in pale electric blue, complete with hexagonal tray (base decorated with a large central motif of five concentric circles of small beads, flanked by smaller concentric circles of beads).

Does this help with ID, please?

Ohhh that is a good clue, Fred, thank you! I have a number of pieces with the single word FRANCE on them, but I haven't yet managed to figure out who made them - we need to explore pressed glass makers in France!

Mysterie set 73
« Reply #6 on: December 30, 2020, 01:53:59 PM »
This set just arrived here  from the UK by post. What a beauty!!!!  It is partly frosted. I found out  in the Mystery Gallery that it is number 73. And indeed, all the items are marked "FRANCE". Except the ringholder.
So "France".... could it be made by BAYEL....?? And is it real Art Deco or perhaps made in the 50ties....? Does anyone have any idea?
Anne feel free to add these photos to mysterie 73

It certainly is Eugenie, especially the tray.

The bowls (without the lids) remind me of the dessert sets with cut-away corners and beaded edges that I think are sometimes sold as "Czech", so perhaps they are wrong in that description?

May I ask is the "France" mark moulded in the glass or acid etched on the surface?

I ask as I'm still trying to ID a pair of vases with "Made in France" etched near the base.  Haven't heard of Bayel before so perhaps another possibility for me to search?

The "FRANCE" mark is moulded indeed in the glass. See photo.
The "Verrerie de Bayel"exists since 1666, located in the northeast of France. It is mentioned in "Glass Fact File A-Z" of Ivo Haanstra.

I have 3 ring holders of BAYEL. All 3 marked BAYEL , moulded in the glass. They made several trinket sets, some of them look like the famous Baccarat Bambou Torsé sets but the quality of the glass/crystal is quiet different. Baccarat is of course the best one.... You see and feel immediately the difference.

If you use the French words : verrerie, verre moulé, verre pressé, ensemble de toilette, garniture de toilette, baguier etc. you will find your way.

Many thanks for the photo and advice, something to look into.

Sadly the "France" looks nothing like my vase marking (and I checked carefully to see if there was anything similar hidden away on other surfaces).

Would you happen to know of any other French manufacturers did etch their products?
