CAITHNESS GLASS OR WHAT ??
« on: July 25, 2012, 09:10:27 AM »
The attached photo is of a large glass charger weighing over 3kg and measuring 16" in diameter. It is acid etched CAITHNESS to ground pontil base. I have been unabel to find another such large item made by the caithness company ?? Any ideas?

Possibly one of their Studio pieces - I've not seen one before and I would have thought it might be marked as limited edition, although there is a possibility it's a "second" of a Ltd. Ed., given the base is not highly polished.
It's rather lovely - a great find!

Never seen anything from Caithness like this before, what an interesting piece.

You described the base as ground - and it looks ground in the pic, sorry for any confusion I caused!
There is clearly no pontil mark left at all, and you say it's highly polished. It may still be a second - given the swirls are not all evenly spaced - it can be very, very hard sometimes to tell a second from a "first". I do have a couple of "Limited Edition" (of 250 bits) but they're seconds and completely unmarked. I don't know all the ins and outs of how things were marked, quite frankly.
It's not something from any normal major range!
