Murano Glass ID Assistance Needed - Barovier & Toso?
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:21:16 AM »
Hello Folks,

I believe this bowl to be Murano glass.  Would the glass experts agree?  If so, can anyone attribute the piece to a specific glass house?  I'm thinking that it might be a Barovier & Toso bowl.  I purchased this bowl at an estate sale that had lots of other Murano pieces.

The bowl is footed and measures about 4 1/8" tall and 6 3/8" wide.  It has a nice spiral design with lots of silver flecks.

Any ID assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

I can't help much, but it does not look like the work of B&T. I am not sure it is Murano glass. I hope someone will have a better idea.

I disagree with Anita on this one, further risking my tattered reputation  Both the interior and the exterior techniques look like Murano, although it's a bit of a surprise to see the two together. I don't think it's B & T, but certain attribution on this would be most unlikely.

David, you didn't disagree with me. We both thought the same -- that it didn't look like B&T. Reputation in tact, and I won't be forced to send my retaliator your way. :)

My reservation with it being Murano is the pink looks so similar to a vase that I bought once before. The vase turned out not to be Murano glass. The inner layer of my vase was white, though, so very different from this bowl. The bowl could easily be Murano glass, but I don't know.

Thanks Anita and David.  Any chance it could be a Dino Martens piece?

It isn't like anything I've seen for Martens, Quailman. Good thought, though.

Bump, just in case some Murano enthusiasts who missed the original post would like to comment.  Thanks!
