Abstract fish, Czech or Italia?
« on: August 15, 2012, 06:14:52 PM »
When I first spotted this I thought Skrdlovice but not so sure now as I have not been able to find another.  It is very well made, polished base with fine arris, 30cm long and it is heavy.

Can anyone put a name to it?

John

Gerald? Maximillian? Kurt?

Is it a fish? I see a grumpy badger, with it's bum in the air, barking or coughing. ;D

elegant bit of glass though.  8)

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think the fish is simply fantastic. And great photos too.

Thanks Anik, I am very fond of it too.

Now why didn't I think of an angry badger with an elevated bottom? ;D

My opinion is Murano on the fish. I love this style of fish and have seen several over the past 2-3 yrs for sale, but unfortunately have been unable to purchase due to lack of cash. So they go for a good price!

The style reminds me of some Cenedese and SVdA pieces I have seen (the back fins and the simplicity of the shape). Not saying yours could be one of them though as I have not seen anything similar to you piece. But it could be a direction to look in. I would also consider Murano due to the sommerso style.

Absolutely stunning piece. Am really jealous! Me, still on the lookout for a good SVdA fish I can snap up when I have the cash at the right moment  ::)

Thanks Kane. It was the simplicity of the shape that was pushing me away from Murano and towards Czechoslovakia. ;D

The key is being open to any and all possibilities...

Stunning piece John (and beautiful pics).

I don't know if it is Czech or Murano or ...
But if it is Czech, I am rather sure it is not Skrdlovice.
ZBS could be a contender; we had a vase here on the board a while ago in a very similar colourway, which I would have attributed to ZBS without much doubt:

On Jindrich's site are some photographs from the Zelezny Brod Museum showing pieces in a similar style to your fish (unfortunately not more info regarding designer or date visible):

a jealous ;D Michael

Thank you Michael!

Interesting that you should throw up ZBS, the colours of this fish do fit very well.

Some lovely glass in Jindrich's album and photo 328 gives the designer of those fish as Rony Plesl (zoom in, top right).  Are they named Occo and Bart? :D
Wow, does he design some funky glass: http://ronyplesl.com/

So, one of his or inspired by? ;D

ZBS was just an idea -- it might still be Murano 8)
>> Link to a basket in a similar colourway on German ebay with a Murano label (I am not sure about the Seguso / Poli attribution)
