Thank you. I was just wondering whether it was Inwald rather than Barolac, but not with that base
Hi Christine,
I'm not sure I get what you mean here. If it was made by Inwald that wouldn't stop it being Barolac surely; in fact I think the opposite would be true! Then again, if it was a French market piece sold via Markhbeinn, would we still be correct in calling it Barolac? I am confusing myself now...
Anyway, re. the base, it looks alright to me. While we tend to associate Inwald with mirror polished bases, not all of Inwald's Barolac line is finished this way. I've had vases which appear early (opalescent and with acid-stamp mark) which have shown similar grinding to the base.
here's the bottom of a seemingly early rose vase for comparison:

might be an indication of earlier rather than later production (the mould quality also looks good to me). I've seen this 11280F variant documented in the 1937 Markhbeinn catalogue (available from
www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de) and don't recall seeing it on any positively identifiable post-Inwald Barolac, though I could well be wrong here and I don't have access to my reference materials to check at the moment.
