Glass Bowl ID Needed
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:41:32 PM »
Now my local antique dealer has a few of these, some are more subtle than others - I picked up a more delicate coloured one - wondered if they are anything - they look Czech but I really dont know. Any info welcomed. 5.5" diam, 1.25" high in a yellow tinted glass body with primary colours to four openings.

Thanks Adam

I've seen a few of these on eBay recently. I wondered who made them...

Hi Adam, reminds me a little of the ones shown in these threads, some Murano I believe, although similar pieces  produced in Romania and China to name a few....

I am not surprised by these threads, Murano or Romanian. This has four sections unlike those in the provided threads, the colours are more subtle and the whole piece more balanced. I believe many of these have garish colours, as I stated I picked this subtle one. The threads are not definite, apart from Jindrich's stating they are not Czech. So.............

Adam, here is another thread with one very similar to yours: >> Link
Doesn't help much in attribution, though...

My Murano SVCC one is quite different to those: UFO shape, irregular pockets, and more substantial weighing 2.2 kg.
Better pics attached :)

Thanks Michael - that thread contains virtually exact same bowl as mine, no further on ID wise though - I guess its a wait till one with a label comes up. What I can say is my dealer had some four or five versions with varying degress of colour to the four sections, some with opaque type colour that filled the wells completely - it gets me wondering if this is a much copied design made by different factories.

It's a design that seemed to have started in Murano with three compartments and was copied many other places, sometimes with the three sections and sometimes with four.  You see quite a few of these even in Canada, which would reinforce the idea they were made in a variety of locations.
