American ? Glass Car Mascot any ideas
« on: April 02, 2006, 05:03:39 PM »
Bought this today and it's a real puzzle. It's a car mascot as it has the groove around it to hold it in place. An American Indian Chief made from marbled, irredised, milk slag glass. Marked underneath with a B in a triangle and 1981 which I guess could be year of manufacture but just as easily a model number. All ideas greatly appreciated.

Nice one Max, at least I paid less than the $25 for it, but best of all I like it.

I like it too.  Something about the colouring on the face...it really works well with the subject.   :D

Quite a well known piece - and a lot of fun too. We've had a pink Carnival one for some time. The B in a triangle is the mark of Guernsey Glass, but another company probably has the mould now (Summit colours - but they've folded now, so I am unsure where the mould currently is. Does anyone else know for certain?)

Max, you have "A Century of Carnival Glass". Look at page 238 for a colour photo of the Pontiac Indian Head

Just for the sake of clarity, both the Pontiac automobile and the city in Michigan where they used to be made were named after Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Indian tribe.
