Kralik millefiori powder box
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:49:38 AM »
I've added a couple of pieces to my 20's and 30's collection and this was one of them.  Very iridescent/glossy and a nightmare to photograph.  Flash on a dark background seemed to work best.
The millefiori are all round the lid and base.  I think this must have been quite difficult to make.  It has a white interior, then the millefiori layer which is quite thick on the lid but thinner on the base strangely,  then cased in a caramel layer and iridised. I'll add some more pictures once my battery is charged.

thanks :)  I never divulge my sources  ;D
trying to get some more pictures has been difficult  >:( I've managed what I think is an excellent one of the rim of the lid though, where it is clear that the incredibly thin millefiori slices are actually embedded in the outer side of the white layer and then a thick clear layer has been put on top then iridised.

Lovely find, m.  :)
Especially because it has some different coloured amoebas.  ;)
And yes, they are terribly hard to photograph. Here´s mine:

Lovely shape and colours Dirk.  Yes I like the variations of the millefiori.  These seem to come in different 'ranges' looking at the Kralik-glass.com site.

I don't think the slices would have had to be too thin, m - they've been blown to stretch them out.

Funnily enough, I see this ebay sale at the top of this trhead... also with a slice or so!

(I think yours looks a lot older and more complex.)
