Clear Glass Vase Bowl Gold Foliage Overlay
« on: September 09, 2012, 08:11:48 PM »
Hello!

Can someone please help me ID this vintage glass vase/bowl. It is clear glass with a ribbed body and with a ruffled top rim and decorated with branches, leaves and berries in gold overlay. There are no markings on the bottom. The gold overlay looks almost like leading, it is elevated from the surface of the vase/bowl. The gold band around the exterior of top rim is not elevated. Measures 6" high x 6" diameter and weighs 1 lb.7oz.

Many thanks for your help!

Jeff

My guess would be Victorian and English from the colour underneath the gilding (the Bohemians tended to use yellow under gilding). How is the base finished?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply!

I've posted two photos of the base below. It is slightly concave with a center ring that is probably the pontil mark (?).  Appreciate any more info this might elicit  :)

Anne,

Sorry about that. I'm new to the Board and wasn't sure how it worked. I do know now and will follow your guidelines.
