Blue Italian fused glass tray, possibly Venini?
«

Hi there -
We have this tray that our late dad bought in the 50s. A dealer who eyeballed it said it may be from Venini; though there is no visible acid signature on the bottom, they said it may have faded.
Let me know what you think! Many thanks.

First of all, congratulations on what looks like a fantastic piece of Murano. The technique is Murrine, so not fused. The colour is very much like pieces designed by Ludovico Diaz de Santillana for Venini in the years 1962/3, the shape looks like pieces designed by Paolo Venini circa 1957 - so not a bad guess from your antique dealer... However, you would like a signature - which is not always there. Many pieces remained unsigned.
The best way to find out for sure is to ask Venini - maybe they'll answer this time. It is a bit hit and miss with them.
Good luck

There's a dish of identical form/technique, with the blue 'split' running down the middle, illustrated in Franco Deboni's 2-volume
Venini Glass
(Illus. 171 in
Catalogue 1921 - 2007
), but with different murrines. As Ivo says, the form is a Paolo Venini one - designed c.1959.
In the same volume, illustrations 169 and 173, both designed by Tobia Scarpa c.1960, do use the same murrines as seen above.

I got mine on the cheap from an antiques fair. Even so, it's still the second most expensive reference book I own.
