Hi Lother

In 1979 Graham Brown, who had helped Paul Ysart set up at Harland, offered William Manson who was working at Caithness at the time, backing to set up a studio at Killwinning (South West of Glasgow) under a holding company Aiden Hill Ltd.

Willie had several other glassmakers working for him and the name Maurice Growder? seems familiar but I can't be sure. Daveweight should be able to confirm the name. At Killwinning, Willie produced many high quality weights with a WM cane as well as a cheaper range called Scotia.

The venture was short lived however, as although the paperweight business was profitable, the other companies trading under the Aiden Hill umbrella which were all craft outlets were losing money and Graham Brown closed the whole venture down after only 2 years. In 1981 Willie returned to Caithness as a freelance glassmaker.

Hope this helps

Derek
