Isle of Wight /Alum Bay ? swirly glass vase
«

Lots of different shades of green, yellow, red and white swirls could be Alum Bay.
Though not sure about the base? any thoughts appreciated.
Sorry about the back ground Picasa won't let me load the edit facility to crop them?
Quite tall nearly 10" thanks Chris

Chris - Alum Bay pieces seem often to have the pontil within a recessed/sunken depression. The pontil itself is often snapped with, usually, some degree of heat treatment - I know we've had pix on the board before to illustrate the base typical of this factory. Are you able to post a pic of the base of this piece?

Time to wake up Paul
by the miracle of modern technology if you click on the block of blue writing it will take you to several more photos in the album including one of the base
thank you for looking, pretty sure it is but don't often see the larger vases usually the little globey pieces, mmm rare then.
The base....

Looks like the right shape for their "Extra Large Vase" but it is a lot smaller:

being a non-technical old sod I tend to think that the pix I can see on the screen are the only ones available - I forget that some people are a little more advanced than me.
If you are still in doubt send an email to Colin Green at Alum Bay - he's been very helpful to me on more than one occasion - and yes, they did make one or two quite large and unusual vases in the earlier days.

An immediate reply from Colin confirmed it is Alum Bay dating from 1992 and based on the Onyx colour range.

I had hoped pics were going to continue to be posted directly to the board after the discussion a while back.
Your link takes ages to load, Chris, and when closing an image - I closed the whole thing, so to see another one, I'd have to wait for it all to load again...

Sue I have compromised and posted a permanent photo in all posts
Not sure what operating system you are using but when I click the link it instantly takes me to the album with a row of thumbnail photos of the piece click on the first one and it immediately opens up the large photo either side of the photo is a white arrow click on this and it takes you to next one alternatively you can click on 'slide show' which takes you through the photos one by one without even having to do anything you can even set the time in seconds how long between each photo and even a pause facility.
Anyone else having a problem? I know some, like photobucket and the one they use on the 20th Century glass forum wwwserving.com are a pain in the butt to navigate.
