Geoff Timberlake
(1/1)
nigel benson:
It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Geoff Timberlake passed away on Monday this week.
Geoff was a fellow collector of Nazeing glass, and, with his wife Davina, collaborated and supported me presenting the exhibition that we held at Lowewood Museum, Broxbourne in 2003. He launched his book on the history and glass made by Nazeing and its predecessor companies that began with Charles Kempton in Vauxhall London on the first day of the exhibition.
He published the book himself after a great deal of original research and it is a credit to him that he managed to get passed all the brick walls that prevented many of us from progressing that research.
Geoff was Secretary to the Glass Association for some years and he quietly got on with the job with good suggestions that helped the GA move forward, including being the webmaster for their first website.
He and Davina were keen caravaners travelling both in the UK and on the Continent. They were both active in the Caravan Club as well. Soon after Geoff resigned from being the GA secretary they bought themselves a mobile home to travel in often making them difficult to contact!
Without Geoff's work on Nazeing and the Kempton's the glass world would be the poorer, so collector's and dealer's who now use information that has been disseminated from his book owe him a debt.
My deep condolescences to Davina and family.

A very sad loss for the glass world, but he has left a tremendous legacy for which we are incredibly grateful.
