Decanter (just Sharing)
« on: September 26, 2012, 03:16:56 PM »
Thought I'd share this piece I picked up on Sunday last week. Rather gaudy decanter covered in gilt, cabochons, etc.  17 1/2" height & 5" diameter. I figure it may be Moser, Lobmyer, Harrach, etc. but in this case attribution isn't a must. Ken

I Agree with your analysis. Are those cabochons glued on?

'Gaudy' ?  I think that's rather beautiful  ;D  I love a bit of embellishment.  Perfect to use at celebration times.

Thanks Ivo...I assume they are, but cannot tell even with a loop searching for a seam...its just raised ovals on the surface.

i askd because if it is cut from a cased blank this would be definitely Czech - and if craftfully glued to the surface Italy might be an option.

Odd question alert here. If the cabochons were cut from cased glass Ivo, would they have just trailed the blue glass around the middle of the decanter when it was blown as a blank?  It probably a very obvious answer but I'm just wondering.

I think it would be half-posted up to the required level using a spatula.

OK my wife who has far better eyes than mine says the ovals are definately part of the glass within the interior itself & not added...no seams. Probably not putting this in correct terms though but doing the best I can.  I  did find these letters/numbers within the polished pontil, but not certain it carries much meaning. Ken
