(uncatalogued?) Dartington Clock - like Iittala Arkipelago
« on: September 30, 2012, 02:18:49 PM »
I found this rather lovely Dartington Crystal clock recently, but cannot find the design or designer, referenced anywhere.
Does anybody know anything about it?
The last image is looking up through it from the base. The base itself is completely smooth, concave and heat "finished" - although perhaps heat-finished is not the correct term.
I think its been made upside-down in a mould, in 3 "sections". The base "finish" would simply be the top surface layer of hot glass.

Is my photography so bad nobody can see that this is really rather a spectacular and well-made piece?
The shape and the clarity do make it very difficult to photograph.  :-[

Has anybody even seen one of these before?
Is there a possibility it might actually BE Iittala Arkipelago, but with a convieniently-sized Dartington Crystal clock face stuck into it?

Hi Sue

I have never handled one but have seen them for sale before as Dartington. I always thought they were fairly modern - ie well post Frank Thrower - so not in the books.   Nice though just the same   :)

Thank you!
I don't mind a tall about it not being a Frank Thrower, I know he's THE name, but I can't really see what the fuss about his work is - just not my cup of coffee.
I like this much better.
I had hoped it might be earlier, obviously. ;)
What's really annoying is I actually did buy myself a contemporary Dartington clock recently, at great expense (half price, £50) new. I didn't need it after all!

Ah well, I'll be in Crieff this afternoon, I can annoy the sales assistants in the shop with a query. ;D
