What is this?
« on: October 01, 2012, 08:41:09 PM »
I'm trying to find any reference of this bowl.
It is 35x10cm, with 3 marmaids in the body.
Please help me!
Thanks,

Hi and welcome
I don't know anything about this kind of glass but that looks like a bowl 'Ondines' in Cappa's Le Genie Verrier de l'Europe page 381 which is id'd as Marius Sabino and I think it says signed Verart moulded signature?
Does yours measure 34.5cm wide?  Is it marked Verart?
In the book the bowl looks an opalescent purply blue colour, more purple than yours and it says it is opalescent.  I don't know if these were copied or not by someone else?

Can anyone else add anything to this thread?  I feel sure we've had this on the board before somewhere.  I've reread and just realised the size in Cappa is onlyh .5cm smaller than OP's bowl so it may be a match.  But the one in the book is opalescent and OP's does not appear to be  :-\

You are welcome :)
The design on yours is certainly the same as the one in Cappa page 381, the size is very near , but I have found another identified as Ondines by Sabino and the design is different ?   it is a powder box here http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=3118179
the mermaids are holding hands on that.
Perhaps they were just two different designs though given the object and size.  Hopefully someone with very much more knowledge will be along to help out shortly.
This link was a 1995 auction at Christie's to one with mermaids marked VERART however there is no picture to compare sadly.
