Glass bird ID
« on: October 06, 2012, 01:02:50 PM »
Clear glass bird with internal black and white stripes. Black beak and eyes. 5" high. Thought at first it might be Beranek, but I don't think so now. Any ideas?

I think these are Chinese as well maybe. One has been on the board before possibly a Zebra - I think Craig posted one for someone.

These birds were produced as 'Murano Style' glass along with cats, penguins and I think there is a dog here on the board somewhere.  They were made in Asia for Crystal Clear Collectables,  Leonardo Glass and Badash Glass.  The cat is still available from Amazon... I believe.

There are at least two for sale on eBay at the moment listed as Murano, and in the past I have seen them being sold on USA eBay for over $100 because they were described as Murano.

I will see if I can find the link to the dog!!

Thanks everyone. When I got him home (he was part of a large haul I bought at the Barras) I was suspicious of the matt base. The detail isn't there. He cost a few pounds so I am not that bothered. He wasn't sold as anything, just a bird. My dealer down the Barras rarely attributes her stuff unless marked or labelled.

It's not that I don't like Chinese glass, I just don't collect it.

Here is the link as promised Adam, and it links to a further link I started when I was a very new member here, so both are worht a read....the expensive glass these were being sold as were Dino Martens pieces!

I hope all this helps you identify your bird conclusively... ie all the makers appear to be the same,  and are distributed via other companies around the globe.

I reckon this one is the cat you speak of - wasn't sold as Murano... but was in an antique fair!
