« on: October 13, 2012, 07:28:44 PM »
I do not collecting paperweights for a long time.
How to distinguish antique because of new PAIRPOINT Paperweights?
This one is of course a nice butterfly weight and is called antique:

Could it be from the 20century?

Hi Lothar.

i would have dated it to the 1970's time period based on the millefioir canes.

Hi Alpha!
The last discussion wether NEGC and Pairpoint was not as successfully, but you maybe a specialist of pairpoint weights.
Do you have references or examples (pictures) that underpin your opinion?

"Pairpoint" is a 20th century company. It did not exist in the 19th century.  It is, however the corporate successor to the Mount Washington Glass Coimpany. In my view there is no such think as "antique Paipoint" (ie over 100 years old Pairpont), as the company did not exist then. Any "antique Pairpoint" would be "antique Mount Washington Glass Company". And I have never seen a millefiori weight scholarly attributed to Mount Washington Glass Co.

There was an excellent presentation a number of years ago at Wheaton Paperweight Fest done by Ed Poore who worked for a time at Pairpoint. He had slides of the ealry 1970's millefioiri canes. There are also many millefiori pieces signed with the Pairpoint "P" signature cane. The 1970's Pairpoint canes are very "light and airy" with lots of clear glass and very little color, and there are few of the cane  in a design - both concepts were designed to keep costs down. Later in the 1980's and beyond, Pairpoint was known to have used Whitefirars canes in its weights.

This one appears to be "lopsided" just as the last pairpoint that was in question.  Where a majority of the earlier pairpoints that sloppy?
