2 Clichy at Tayor and Fletcher
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:18:34 PM »
Did anyone buy lot 95 today?

http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/tayler-and-fletcher/catalogue-id-2853293/lot-15653697

The Clichy bottom right looks very strange, like it's been ground down for what looks like 4 facets?

opinions?

Sold for over £400 the lot, which was expensive in my eyes....

I bid, but was not even the under-bidder.  I agree that the very square Clichy looks odd - but I have seen some with four side facets that looked original: this one looks too tall for its width.

The single Clichy flower fetched £1000 - more than I thought it might.

i think its very cheap i have sold one clichy for over £500. i think one has a few white clichy roses
that has to be worth more than £400 on its own

I was basing my opinion on things like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTIQUE-FRENCH-CLICHY-MINATURE-MILLIFIORI-PAPERWEIGHT-/290770861093?pt=UK_Art_Glass&hash=item43b34b3c25

Then take into account what looks like a weight which has been pretty obviously done with the 4 facets, and I didn't want to take the risk.....

It's a funny place ebay, recently listed a Perthshire PP20 weight twice at £50 starting price the least I thought it would make and got no bids, listed it last week starting at £20 it made £81.

Just sold this Clichy miniature at a starting price of £50 but with a reserve, it made £500.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261109798086?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1562.l2649

It had the highest number of watchers I've had on an item (63) so thought it may have made a little more.

It does seem that low starts attract the bids but without a reserve you run the risk of it selling too low. It's difficult to strike the right balance sometimes.

Nick

i realise some clichy weights make less than others but think if they have the rose it seems to bump up the price.
