I picked this up this morning, and do not have a clue what it is - can anyone enlighten me ?

It weighs 3 Kilos and stands 22 cms high (approx 9 inches), and has no identifying marks or labels whatsoever.

Is it a bowl, a plate or a platter? It's hard to tell from just the one view. Also we like a base shot please, it tells us a lot about how a piece was made. More descriptive subjects are also advisable as they help with the search function on the board. Thanks.

Hi Anne

The best way to describe it would be to compare it to a discus or flying saucer.  The middle is about twice the thickness of the edge.  It is set into a plain glass base, and reclines at an angle of around 100 degrees

I'll get some better pics taken tomorrow and will add them to the thread.

Here are a few more pics, under natural light the flecks in the glass are green/brown in colour, but when exposed to a strong light they turn a coral red colour with gold flecks.

That makes a lot of sense.  The better known makers are more likely to sign such a large piece, or at least put a label on it.  The first thing most people would do with a made in China label is to remove it.
