What style of glasswork is this?
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:48:55 PM »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me identify the style of glass work on these vases.

The vase is an orange colour with white inside and the design on the outside looks like it is made with tiny coloured balls of glass

They were my Grandma's possibly 1960's but not too sure.

Many thanks

Jan

Welcome to the board. The decoration is called coralene. Your vases are probably older than 1960s; maybe late 19th/early 20th C. Can we see a picture of the base and the interior please

I think my age diagnosis was OK. Bohemian seems likely

While I'd tend to agree with Christine, the vases also could potentially be more modern than turn of the century. I wouldn't want to entirely rule out mid twentieth century Japanese for these.

The reason I suggest Japan is that I've recently seen a few Japanese pieces with  bright colours over white interiors and with similar gold rims to these. Sometimes they turn up with moriage decoration similar to that found on eggshell porcelain (though I must say I've never seen this exact decor on a Japanese piece).
