Bowl with grey centre to ID
« on: October 31, 2012, 02:31:02 AM »
I will try not to hog the message board with my ID queries, so this is the last one for a while, but I've got a few more objects (bought yet another one today) which are driving me crazy!  This bowl looks like it might be Scandinavian to me, but I haven't managed to find it, although I am getting bleary-eyed working my way through the Danish Glassworks Museum at the moment.  It is approximately 26cm x 16cm and 4.5cm high.  The base is flat with a faint trace of writing, possibly in felt tip, which looks like "1971  16".  Is there a word for this kind of two-tone colouration which I can use to search with?
Thanks,
Valerie

Antiquerose123, I've had a look at the link, and I think the Holmegaard bowl is much more stylish than mine, unfortunately!  But I think it could be Bayel, France, after finding a similar one while looking up Bayel in connection with another post of mine about a narrow dish with a blue streak.  I shall keep an open mind and keep searching, especially since there was another item in my auction job lot which was a signed Holmegaard piece.  I forgot to bookmark it and can no longer find it by searching, aargh!  If glass makers had indelibly marked all their pieces there would be a lot fewer messages on this website, but then the fun of the treasure hunt would be lost.
Thanks for your input, always appreciated!
Valerie

Not Lutken or Holmegaard. I think Bayel is a good place to start looking. Magnor also did similar pieces, as did many other companies, but Magnor's pieces were unsigned. Smoky grey is the term I would use to describe the piece.

Thanks, David. I've searched Bayel and still haven't found anything quite like this bowl   I'll keep an open mind and keep looking until I find it somewhere!

Ryd is another possibility. Very hard to id this style of bowl without a signature or label.

Rose, Ikea could certainly be a possibility, the shape is very similar although it doesn't look as if that particular range was two-tone.  I wish I had kept some Ikea catalogues from that era, they might be quite useful now for identification purposes.  Funny that some Ikea can now be classed as "vintage retro", that makes me feel quite old!  Mind you, I have seen some of my 1950's toys and books in antique centres, that really is aging!  If only my mother had kept my Muffin the Mule . . .
Thanks for the input, it has opened up a new search area!
Best wishes,
Valerie

IKEA sold (sell) glass, they didn't make it...  even if it was their design it was made for them by a glassworks somewhere. :)
